The mechanisms through which the body picks up environmental cues. The five senses of the human body are sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Though all the sense organs are equally important, we will focus on the importance of hearing, hearing health, and methods to identify and treat hearing loss.

What is Hearing…

Hearing is the sensation of sound, Hearing or auditory perception is the ability to perceive sounds by detecting vibrations, changes in the pressure of the surrounding medium through time, through an organ such as the ear.

How does our hearing system work?

Sound waves enter the ear. When a sound occurs, it enters the outer ear, also referred to as the pinna or auricle. Sound moves through the middle ear. Behind the eardrum is the middle ear. Sound moves through the inner ear (the cochlea). Your brain interprets the signal.
